ATHENS -(Dow Jones)- Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE) announced Friday lower charges on fixed-to-mobile calls that will reduce the cost to consumers by roughly 8%.
The new charges come into effect January 1, 2007 and follow the abolition of the current minimum 30-second fee charged by mobile operators.
Currently, phone calls made from OTE fixed-line phones to any of Greece's four major mobile operators include an initial 30-second fee regardless of the length of the phone call.
Starting in January, the 30-second minimum will be abolished and fees will be calculated on a per second basis from the first second that the call is made.
However, the abolition of the minimum 30-second fee will not directly impact OTE profits since the fee is collected by OTE and then passed on the mobile providers, a company source said.
