Ukraine's UMC Base Stations Up 64.5% Since January

KIEV, Dec 18 (Prime-Tass) -- The number of base stations of Ukraine's second largest mobile operator Ukrainian Mobile Communications, or UMC, has increased 64.5% since January 1 to the current 8,850 units, the company said Monday.

The company installs an average of 20 base stations daily, UMC said earlier.

UMC spent US$391 million on the development of its network in January-September.

In 2005, the number of UMC?s base stations rose 41% to 5,380 units.

UMC is 100% owned by Russia?s largest mobile operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS). UMC?s network covers 91% of Ukrainian territory where 95% of population resides. The company?s subscriber base exceeds 17 million users.

UMC?s revenue was at $1.2 billion last year.
