Pakistani Network Orders New Home Location Register
Motorola has announced an expansion to the deployment of its home location server (HLS) to enable Pakistan's Mobilink to serve an additional 10 million subscribers for an average of 30 million subscribers overall. The existing HLS order, announced in February 2006, supported Mobilink in meeting its fast growth plans and reaching its goal of 20 million subscribers, up from 13 million subscribers.
"Motorola remains committed to matching Mobilink's extensive subscriber base growth. The major benefit of Motorola's HLS is that it enables telecoms providers to add capacity quickly and seamlessly and at reduced capital and operating expenses, which is critical for operators like Mobilink," said Jose Figueroa, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Networks & Enterprise EMEA.
The Motorola HLS solution consolidates silos of subscriber data into a single subscriber-centric database, providing Mobilink with the ability to rollout new services and provision subscribers in a faster and more cost effective manner.
The Mobilink HLS contract is the culmination of more than a decade of collaboration between Motorola and Mobilink. A portion of revenue on this contract was recognized by Motorola in the third quarter of 2006.
The Mobile World subscriber database reports that Mobilink has somewhat over 20 million customers, giving it a market share of nearly 49%. "
