Sittel Set to Collect Up to US$2.75mn in Fines

Bolivian telecoms regulator Sittel has slapped fines worth a total of 22mn bolivianos (US$2.75mn) on several operators for not meeting quality standards, local newspaper Correo del Sur reported.

The regulator has issued 200 fines but operators have the right to appeal the decision.

Some fines were also related to the misuse of frequencies assigned and interference with the signals of other operators.

In related news, Bolivian operator Entel said the company will be constantly monitoring its GSM platform, which recently encountered a fault that left the company without service for a day.

In order to solve that particular downtime Entel needed to make modifications and adjustments to its platform in Canada, which is provided by Swedish telecoms equipment supplier Ericsson.
