Personal to Distribute BlackBerry Devices to Grain Farmers

Personal, the mobile unit of Telecom Argentina and Argentine grain cooperative Compañía Argentina de Granos have signed an agreement to provide nearly 4,000 grain farmers with BlackBerry devices, newspaper Infobae reported.

The devices will be distributed among rural producers in the provinces of Córdoba, Buenos Aires, La Pampa, San Luis, Santa Fe and Tucumán.

According to Personal, this is the largest single deployment of BlackBerry devices in Latin America, Infobae said.

Canadian wireless equipment provider Research in Motion is the owner of the BlackBerry brand.

BlackBerry services enable access to email, instant messaging, wireless internet connections and corporate networks.

The device will include a special appliance especially developed by Personal for the agribusiness segment, allowing producers to check grain prices, monitor machinery movements on their land and receive sanitary alerts, among other services.

Personal will train producers to facilitate the use of this tool.

Compañía Argentina de Granos has 70 distribution centers across the country and is integrated by 300 families working in 40 plants.
