Telmex: No Problems with CPP
Published on:
Mexican telecoms giant Telmex has not received complaints regarding Mexico's recent shift to a calling party pays (CPP) billing system for domestic fixed to mobile phone calls, local daily El Informador reported.
"Our clients don't have problems dialing 045 [the national long distance dialing code]," Telmex commercial director Abe Attar was quoted as saying.
The CPP system has been the center of media attention with reports ranging from large dips in long distance calling to legal action taken by mobile phone operators, both before and after the CPP enactment on November 4.
One report from local daily La Reforma said national long distance calling had dropped 70% since the start of CPP billing.
Telcos Protel, Alestra, Avantel, Maxcom and Bestel secured temporary injunctions before the CPP launch, freeing them from the obligation.
Additionally, mobile service providers Iusacell and Unefón have presented telecoms regulator Cofetel with formal grievances accusing three national fixed line operators of fraud.
The mobile providers claim they have received local calls connected by landline operators Avantel, Alestra and Maxcom charged through prepaid international long distance cards instead of the required 045 calling code.
Mobile operators Telcel, Movistar, Iusacell and Unefón adapted their systems so that calls from the four fixed line operators automatically generated a recorded message advising users that they would have to pay for part of the call.
