O2 Germany is turning its attention to one of today's most pressing environmental problems, CO2 emissions. O2 has signed a contract with E.ON Bayern that comprises the use of energy completely from energy-friendly sources. The contract will take effect starting January 1, 2007. The contract is part of the program O2 Renew, which intends that O2 be the first German mobile network provider to work in a CO2-neutral way by the end of 2008.
According to Dietrich Beese, Managing Director Corporate Affairs & Communications at O2 Germany: "We conduct business in a responsible manner and consequently are actively involved in environmental protection. Through the use of regenerative power sources, we can help reduce CO2 emissions until the end of 2008 by more than 100,000 tons."
Starting early in 2007 O2 will obtain around 80 percent of its energy needs from renewable energy sources. This will allow for a CO2 avoidance of around 107,500 tons from early 2007 to the end of 2008."
