Alcatel Deploys Billing Platform for O2 Ireland

Alcatel says that it has completed the deployment of a services platform and converged charging suite as a replacement and upgrade of O2 Ireland's legacy Intelligent Network, and has also successfully migrated O2 Ireland's 1.6 million subscribers.

In addition to replacing end-of-life functionalities, it provides O2 with a fully convergent-ready rating and charging capability, ready for the final migration to converged pre-pay, post-pay, voice, data and multimedia services in the very near future.

The Alcatel solution - Alcatel 8610 Instant Convergent Charging Suite - gives O2 the ability to charge for any type of call or session in real time (SMS, MMS, voice and data content) via a single rating engine for all pre-paid services, thus giving O2 a unique integrated charging mechanism for the full convergence and launching of new commercial offers in a short time-to-market timeframe.

Alcatel will also provide O2 with 24 x 7 x 365 mission critical support from its Dublin-based support team in Ireland.

Oliver Coughlan, Chief Technology Officer at O2 Ireland said: "O2 customers benefit from tailored price plans and customised service bundles. Alcatel's Next Generation Services Platform allows us to charge for these services easily and in real time whilst delivering them seamlessly to our customers."

Last year, Alcatel successfully completed the full migration of O2 Germany's payment platform - 15 million subscribers - onto Alcatel's pre-pay and post-pay convergent payment solution."
