Belgian Operator Offers Windows Messenger Service

Belgium's Proximus has announced that it will launch Microsoft Windows Live Messenger (formerly known as MSN Messenger) within the next couple of weeks on its network. Through this service, customers will have a similar look and feel as Windows Live Messenger with an adapted user experience for the mobile. Customers will be able to see if their contacts are online and exchange messages between Windows Live Messenger on a PC and mobile phone and vice versa.

This agreement with Microsoft is the latest enhancement to Proximus's wireless messaging offerings in Belgium, and will be proposed under the Proximus Instant Messaging umbrella.

As a special launch promotion, Proximus customers will be able to enjoy the Windows Live Messenger Mobile service free until 31 December 2006. National traffic will be included in the price and won't be charged separately to customers. This service is not available abroad.

The Mobile World subscriber database reports that Proximus (Belgacom Mobile) ended the first half of this year with a 47% market share - equating to 4.2 million customers."
