Sony Ericsson has overtaken Motorola to take second place in Taiwan's handset market, reports the local China Economic News Service. Nokia is still the number one handset vendor in the country. Yeh Shun-fa, president of Sony Ericsson Taiwan, said his company will introduce five brand-new models of mobile-phone handsets in October. The launch of these new models will help Sony Ericsson Taiwan to create historic-high sales in October.
Yeh told the news service that a total of 700,000-strong Sony Ericsson-brand handsets have been sold to Taiwan market in the first nine months of this year, hitting a historic-high record since the brand was founded five years ago. He predicted sales of Sony Ericsson-brand handsets in Taiwan will exceed one million units in 2007.
CENS reported that Sony Ericsson saw its market share reach 10.7%, in terms of sales volume, in August, only behind Nokia's 26.8% and Motorola's 25.5%. In terms of sales value, Sony Ericsson saw market share reach 16.3% in August, only behind Nokia's 28% and Motorola's 18.6%."
