CNC Studies 90 Wireless Projects for Remote Areas
Argentine telecoms regulator CNC is studying nearly 90 requests from operators looking to provide telephony services in remote areas, newspaper Infibae reported.
All the proposals are based on CDMA450 technology, which is ideal for fixed wireless telephony.
The telecoms ministry SeCom decided this year to encourage the implementation of new technologies such as CDMA450 for alternative fixed line services in the country.
Incumbent operators such as Telefónica Argentina and Telecom Argentina have conducted several tests with CDMA 450. However, the projects awaiting final authorization by SeCom have all been proposed by small operators and cooperatives.
The areas set to benefit from these proposals include El Calafate in Santa Cruz province, the city of Merlo - a tourist attraction in San Luis province, the city of Azul in Buenos Aires province and areas in the provinces of Chubut, Córdoba, Santa Fé, Neuquén and Entre Ríos.
