Ericsson: 1 Million 3G Users by 2007

Swedish telecoms equipment supplier Ericsson expects nearly 1 million users of 3G services in the Argentine mobile telephony market next year, newspaper Infobae reported.

According to Ericsson's solutions and marketing director for Southern America, Eduardo Griffa, the number of mobile broadband users in Argentina will grow 10% annually until 2011. He was citing data from US consultancy Pyramid Research.

The executive also said increasing penetration of laptops in the country will boost the adoption of 3G services.

As the broadband market in the country expands the real challenges for operators will be to have the capacity to offer the coverage needed and provide clients real mobile broadband services, Griffa added.

Argentine mobile operators ended July with 26.7 million lines in service, up 49.3% compared to the same time 2005 while mobile traffic rose 22.2% over the same period, according to recent data from local statistics bureau Indec.
