Movilnet Adds Moto Q Smartphone to Portfolio
Venezuelan mobile operator Movilnet, a unit of incumbent fixed line operator Cantv, has added Motorola's Moto Q smartphone to its product line, the company said in a statement.
The ultra-thin Moto Q features mobile service, wireless broadband access through EVDO technology, a camera and Windows Mobile 5.0.
"Venezuela is the first country in Latin America to have the Moto Q," Motorola Venezuela director of mobile devices Javier Riccobono said in the statement.
Movilnet has seen extensive expansion in the last year, offering in addition to the Moto Q, new products including the BlackBerry wireless handheld device.
At the end of June 2006, Movilnet had 6.57 million mobile subscribers, up 82.7% year-on-year and Cantv had 3.54 million fixed lines, up 10.8% from June last year.
Cantv has a US$500mn investment plan for 2006, of which nearly US$300mn will be earmarked for Movilnet, BNamericas previously reported.
