Brightpoint says that its Indian subsidiary has secured the rights to distribute Nokia's CDMA handsets to Reliance Communications. Specifically, Brightpoint will distribute RCL configured Nokia CDMA 1255 series handsets to Brightpoint's sales channels in India.
"Brightpoint India is pleased to offer its efficient supply chain and channel expertise to market, sell and deliver Nokia CDMA wireless devices through its network of nationwide dealers to over 24,000 retail outlets across India," stated Robert J. Laikin, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Brightpoint, Inc.
Mr. SP Shukla, President Wireless Business, Reliance Communications, said, "India is currently experiencing an unprecedented telecom boom and mobile telephony has transcended voice to cater to the multifarious requirements of the users. In our pursuit to provide the best quality devices and services to Reliance Communications' customers, we have associated with Brightpoint and Nokia to widen the range of affordable quality devices on our network. This offer will be for the ever-growing customer base of Reliance Communications."
The Mobile World database reports that Reliance ended the first half of this year with some 20.2 million CDMA subscribers. That gives them around 19% of the entire Indian mobile market."
