Study: SMS Has 92% Penetration Among Mobile Users

Some 92% of Argentine mobile telephony customers use short messaging service (SMS), newspaper Infobae reported citing a recent study by consultancy Prince & Cooke.

According to the study "Mobile telephony users in Argentina", each subscriber sends an average of 12 SMS a day, while nearly 215 million SMS are sent per day nationwide.

The study said the low cost of the service and popularity are the main drivers of this high penetration.

According to the consultancy, penetration rises to 97% if users under 18 are taken into account.

Argentine mobile operators closed July 2006 with 26.7 million lines in service, up 49.3% compared to the same time 2005 while mobile traffic was up 22.2% over the same period, local statistics institute Indec recently said.
