Low-Cost Feedthrough Capacitors for Telecoms
The UK based filter specialist, MPE says that it has recognised the need in the telecoms and IT industry for high performance, high reliability, feedthrough capacitors which enable equipment to meet EMC specifications up to at least 1GHz, at an economical cost. Because of their construction, feedthrough capacitors will always be more expensive than two terminal capacitor constructions but the feedthrough's construction is essential to achieve the high frequency performance.
The challenge for MPE has been to develop a range of lower cost feedthrough capacitors particularly for high volume markets. One solution is to package multiple capacitors into a single enclosure to provide a very cost-effective product from a manufacturing and installation point of view.
However for individual feedthrough capacitors, MPE's solution has been to adopt a tooled aluminium enclosure where the volumes are able to justify the tooling costs. This solution coupled with a new design with minimum part count provides a very low cost product without compromising performance, quality or reliability.
These new products offer full feedthrough capacitor performance with 75A current rating in a small enclosure of 45 mm in body length and 32 mm's in diameter. They are suitable for use on standard DC telecoms voltages of 24VDC and -48DC, as well as250VAC and have a high test voltage of 1200VDC for good reliability."
