French equipment supplier Alcatel will deploy a network of its SDH microwave radio links to provide urban backhaul for Claro Perú, a subsidiary of Mexican mobile group América Móvil, Alcatel and Claro said in a joint statement.
"Alcatel's radio solutions will enable Claro to extend its services to new locations and increase its client base," Alcatel executive Luis Martínez Amago said in the statement.
Claro will use Alcatel's LSY 9600 solution to expand its existing microwave backbone and capillary networks. The contract includes installation, training and three years of maintenance.
Alcatel has seen widespread deployment of its radio solutions with some 400,000 installed microwave radio hubs in more than 150 countries, the statement added.
Claro is Peru's second largest mobile operator with a 36.7% market share of the 6.75 million mobile customers reported by Peruvian telecom regulator Osiptel at the end of 1H06.
