Motorola has named David Knapp the general director of Motorola Vietnam. Knapp, previously the general manager of Motorola Networks in Australia and Indonesia, will work with nobile operators to identify and implement network technologies to prepare for the next stage of telecom growth in Vietnam.
This includes the introduction of wireless, wireline, Wi-Fi and Wi-MAX, solutions to improve the operators's overall network performance and efficiency.
For the time being, Vietnam is at the start of the development period of the wireless business. The Ministry of Posts and Telematics is currently researching the possibility of deploying Wi-MAX in mountainous and remote areas.
Motorola has been operating in Vietnam since 1994, one of the first global telecommunications companies to do so. Since then Motorola has helped shape Vietnam's telecommunications landscape, but its mobile handset business has not developed as expected in the market."
