Ukrainian High Technologies to Launch WiMAX in 4 Cities Soon

KIEV, Sep 8 (Prime-Tass) -- Ukrainian High Technologies, or Ukrainskiye Noveishiye Tekhnologii, plans to launch WiMAX networks in four more cities by the end of the year, the company said in a statement obtained by Prime-Tass Friday.

The network will be launched in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa and Lviv, the company said.

The company currently operates WiMAX networks in Kiev, Kharkiv and three cities in the Kiev Region.

The company earlier said that it planned to launch WiMAX services in 14 cities by September, but its plans were interrupted by the Ukrainian communications regulator's decision to cancel the company's license for WiMAX frequencies. The company and the regulator reached an amicable agreement in June and the company's license was cut to the 200 MHZ frequency band from its previous 300 MHz frequency band.

Russian Technologies, a venture fund controlled by Russia's Alfa Group, holds 40% in Ukrainian High Technologies, Intel Capital holds 20% and the remaining 40% stake is held by individuals.
