Russia's MTS Plans to Cut Personnel 13% by Year-end

MOSCOW, Sep 5 (Prime-Tass) -- Russia?s largest mobile operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) plans to cut personnel by 13% to 19,700 people by the end of this year, the company's President Leonid Melamed told a news conference Tuesday.

The company currently employs 22,800 people, down from 24,000 people as of April 1.

The personnel cut is aimed at increasing the company's financial efficiency, Melamed said, adding that some businesses, such as IT, call centers, sales offices and others, are expected to be outsourced.

MTS is the largest mobile operator in Russia and Central and Eastern Europe and is licensed to provide services over an area with a total population of 233.1 million people. The company had 68.402 million users as of July 31, according to Advanced Communications & Media (AC&M).
