Cosmote Romania Submits Bid for 3G License
ATHENS -(Dow Jones)- Cosmote Romania, a 70% owned subsidiary of Greek mobile-phone provider Cosmote Mobile Telecommunications, Monday said it has submitted a bid to the Romanian government to acquire a 3G license.
The cost of the license has been set at approximately US$35 million by the Romanian Inspectorate for Communications and Information Technology.
The successful bidders will be announced by Oct. 15.
Cosmote Romania plans to use the third-generation, or 3G, license to enhance capacity on its network as well as offer customers new data and high-speed services.
In Greece, Cosmote has been successfully offering 3G services since 2004.
3G mobile-phone technology has increased network operators' capacity and bandwidth, offering faster data speeds.
