Finnish Mobile TV Contract Awarded
T-VIPS, a Norwegian technology company says that it has been awarded a contract by Digita OY to provide IP content transport solutions for Digita's DVB-H network rollout in Finland. Digita obtained the DVB-H network license from the Finnish Government earlier in 2006 and will be responsible for the operation of the DVB-H network and administration of MobileTV channels.
The IP distribution infrastructure for Digita's DVB-H network is based on the TVG420 Video Gateway, which provides an ideal solution for transmission of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 transport streams over IP networks. The TVG420 is part of T-VIPS' Video Gateway suite; a line of products designed for real-time contribution and distribution of professional video over IP networks. The TVG420 has also been optimised for operation in DVB-H environments, where additional functionality such as the option of 'at source synchronisation' for SFN operation is a useful benefit for mobile TV operators.
"The combination of our networking and video expertise enabled us to be first to market with an IP distribution solution for DVB-H that is deployable and provides the flexibility to make the most of the many advantages of IP distribution for MobileTV," says Helge Stephansen, CTO, T-VIPS.
"Having designed our solutions throughout using open standards made it much easier for us to carry out the necessary optimisation of our solutions for Digita's DVB-H network architecture. I look forward to playing an important part in helping Digita rollout this exciting new DVB-H service," concluded Stephansen."
