3G Planed for Fiji
At a press conference last week, Vodafone Fiji's Chief executive Aslam Khan announced that the network operator would launch 3G services on the island nation next year.
"That's a third generation services network services that we are embarking on and that will be next year," said Mr Khan.
The company also recently announced that more than 7000 people will benefit from Vodafone Fiji's commissioning of a new base station, its 107th, at Nasau, Nadi. The new base station is being launched a week after the launch of a new $600,000 base station at Vanuabalavu, Lau.
Vodafone Fiji now has a total of 107 base stations, providing mobile coverage for over 65% of the population.
Data from The Mobile World subscriber database notes that Vodafone Fiji has just over 206,000 subscribers as at the end of the first half of this year. This represents a population penetration level of abour 23%. Vodafone is the sole mobile network operator in the country."
