Russia's VimpelCom Sees St Pete Subscriber Base Up to 2 Mln 2006

ST. PETERSBURG, Aug 25 (Prime-Tass) -- The subscriber base of Russia?s second largest mobile operator VimpelCom in St. Petersburg is expected to total more than 2 million people by the end of this year, Andrei Anisimov, director of VimpelCom's St. Petersburg division told reporters Friday.

Currently, VimpelCom's subscriber base in St. Petersburg amounts to 1.898 million people, he said.

The company's share of the St. Petersburg mobile services market rose 1% in January-July to 22.9% as of July 31, Anisimov said, adding that the company plans to have a 23.5% share of the market by 2007.

VimpelCom is a leading telecommunications operator in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), with operations in Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The company had a total of 49.880 million users as of May 31, according to Advanced Communications & Media (AC&M).
