Tetris and Pac-Man Dominate Mobile Games Sales

Nearly 13.5 million USA mobile subscribers downloaded a game in Q2 2006, representing average monthly revenues of US$46.9 million for the quarter, according to Telephia. Since Q3 2005, the number of subscribers who downloaded mobile games from the operator portal has increased by 15 percent. During that same time period revenues jumped 63 percent.

The Telephia Mobile Game Report shows that revenue share for Tetris by EA Mobile led all game titles with a 5.1 percent share. Namco's Pac-Man came in second place with a three percent share, while EA Mobile's Bejeweled game was a close third with 2.8 percent of the total revenue share. Another Namco title, Ms. Pac-Man drove 2.3 percent of total revenues, while World Poker Tour-Texas Hold 'Em by Hands-On Mobile secured a 2.2 percent share.

Overall, EA Mobile drove more than 29 percent of total publisher revenues for Q2 2006, with Namco and Hands-On Mobile following with an 8.4 and 8.2 percent share, respectively. Glu Mobile drove 7.4 percent of all revenue and Gameloft secured a 7.1 percent share.

"In less than a year, average monthly mobile game revenues have increased by nearly two-thirds, from $28.7 to $46.9 million during the most recent quarter," said Kanishka Agarwal, Vice President of New Products, Telephia. "Backed by an increasingly growing audience, both big gaming brands and new upstarts have taken a slice of that revenue pie."
