Mobility Infrastructure Grows Despite CDMA Slump
Dell'Oro Group has reported that the worldwide mobility infrastructure market grew 10 percent in the second quarter of 2006, but declined 3 percent over the same quarter. The overall mobility infrastructure market was impacted by weak CDMA sales that declined 26 percent versus the second quarter of 2005. The CDMA market is expected to rebound next quarter as vendors begin to see the benefit of seasonal spending patterns and revenues from CDMA 1X-EV-DO Revision A upgrades.
The GSM market was buoyed by resurgence in GSM spending from China, which helped to offset weakness in North America and Latin America.
"As Chinese authorities continue to evaluate alternatives for 3G networks, continued subscriber growth has pushed service providers to renew their investment in their GSM-based networks," said Greg Collins, Senior Director of Mobility Infrastructure Research."
