New Test System Release Advances GGSN and 3GPP Testing

Mobile Metrics has announced the availability of Release 2.0 of its Torrent 5100 GGSN Test System (GTS). The Torrent 5100 is a mobile traffic simulation system capable of exercising not only GGSNs, but other parts of a wireless data network as well, such as IMS platforms and application servers. Key features in the 2.0 release include simulation of Blackberry Always-On behavior, sophisticated virus injection capabilities, built-in comprehensive traffic test cases, and the ability to turn a PC into a mobile station.

"We've been very pleased with the feedback we've gotten from our users on the 1.x releases," said Asa Atallah, CEO of Mobile Metrics, Inc. "One thing that did surprise us, however, were some of the interesting ways in which they used the system - for example, in network security testing".

The original Torrent 5100 was released in 2005 and was the first Third Generation test system of its kind in the space. Third Generation test systems can be distinguished from Second Generation systems by their precise mobile simulation, programmable flexibility, high performance, and sensible, easy-to-use control.

"The Torrent 5100 GTS 2.0 is a great example of these attributes," said Cecil Taylor, Vice-President of Sales and Product Management. "We go beyond the specs to precisely simulate Blackberry Always-On behavior, which puts high stress on GGSNs. Our ability to inject custom virus patterns in mobile traffic shows Torrent's programmable flexibility. The Challenge series of traffic test cases and our ability to simulate one million mobiles from a single PC are examples of the tremendous load we can put on GGSNs."
