Brightpoint Increases Handset Sales Estimates

The handset wholesaler, Brightpoint says that it has revised its estimate to increase the number of units which it expects to handle in 2006. "Based upon our insight into the wireless industry and the continued strong global demand for wireless devices, I am now revising my previously stated estimate of 50-55 million units expected to be handled by Brightpoint to 55-60 million units for the year 2006," stated Robert J. Laikin, Brightpoint's Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer.

"So far in Q3, we have seen strong demand in the global wireless device industry and based on a strong replacement cycle and growth outlook for Q3 and Q4 2006, I reiterate our estimate of the global wireless device sell-in range of 950 million to 1 billion units.

"According to some industry sources, it is estimated that as many as 1.5 billion wireless devices will be sold in 2011. I agree with these estimates, as feature and application rich multi media wireless devices with color screens, higher mega-pixel embedded cameras, MP3 players and the mobile device fast becoming an extension of the desktop will continue to drive demand for the next several years."
