Ericsson to Supply SDH Equipment to Yeniseitelecom

MOSCOW, Aug 16 (Prime-Tass) -- Sweden-based telecom solutions provider Ericsson has concluded a deal with Russian regional mobile operator Yeniseitelecom to supply synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) network equipment to the operator, Ericsson said Wednesday.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Under the deal Ericsson is to supply and install equipment for a complex broadband solution based on the SDH standard. The solution includes the fiber-optical network management system ServiceOn Optical and over 30 multiplexers, i.e. devices enabling the digital transmission of several data streams through a single channel, Ericsson said.

The SDH solution is expected to help Yeniseitelecom upgrade its transmission network in the city of Krasnoyarsk and prepare it for the construction of a next generation network (NGN), Ericsson said.

Ericsson hopes to complete installing the SDH equipment and launch the new fiber-optical transmission network for Yeniseitelecom by September, the company said.

Yeniseitelecom is a wholly owned subsidiary of Russia?s Sibirtelecom, a fixed-line telecom provider in the Siberian Federal District. The company provides mobile services in GSM-900/1800 and IMT-MC-450 standards.

Yeniseitelecom?s subscriber base totaled 1 million users as of February 28, up from 970,000 subscribers as of February 1, according to the company's previous reports.
