ZTE Launches Dual-Mode Chinese 3G/GSM Handset

China's ZTE has announced the release of its ZTE U350, the world's first TD-SCDMA/GSM dual module, dual stand-by handset. The dual stand-by capability means users can put a call on hold in one mode and take a separate call on the other mode, and then switch between modes. This is one of the few dual stand-by handsets in the industry, and the first with this capability over TD-SCDMA and GSM.

The ZTE Handset Division has so far launched 14 3G terminals across the three international standards -- WCDMA, CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA -- including handsets and data cards, most of which have already been commercialized, and is one of the leading 3G terminal manufacturers.

ZTE says that it has already sold 300,000 WCDMA terminals to Hutchison Whampoa early this year, and its 3G handsets and data card terminals such as the F869, F870, MF328, and MF330 models are available in the European and Asian markets. In June, ZTE won the world's first big order of HSDPA data cards for its 3.6Mbps MF330 data card, and has started supplying batches of the MF330 cards to major European operators."
