Another Day, Another Patent Lawsuit"

TeleCommunication Systems (TCS) says that it has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia against Mobile 365 and WiderThan Americas for patent infringement. TCS is seeking an injunction against these companies from further infringement, as well as monetary damages.

The lawsuit asserts infringement of United States Patent No. 6,985,748, issued earlier this year. TCS asserts infringement by defendants' platforms that route inter-carrier messages addressed to recipients using only a phone number. The company initiated litigation to protect its rights only after negotiations ended without positive results.

TCS has retained the law firm of Niro, Scavone, Haller & Niro, a Chicago-based law firm that specializes in intellectual property litigation, to prosecute the case.

WiderThan for its part does not believe the lawsuit has merit. WiderThan plans to defend itself vigorously."
