Telmex, AMX to Ready Local Units for Triple, Quadruple Play"
Mexican sister companies Telmex and América Móvil are developing a joint investment program to deploy a converged network for the use of their respective units in Argentina, Argentine paper Infobae reported.
The network will allow corporate services and long distance provider Telmex Argentina and mobile operator CTI Móvil to offer triple and quadruple play services, respectively.
"We are preparing for the convergence of services. Triple and quadruple play services will demand greater capacity and we want to have our own network prepared," Infobae quoted Telmex Argentina CEO Gustavo Muñoz as saying.
Telmex and América Móvil are both owned by Mexican businessman Carlos Slim.
During a recent visit to Argentina, Slim said both companies would invest US$75mn over three years to deploy a fiber optic network.
CTI has 6.63 million users, of which nearly 3 million signed up for service in 2005, while Telmex Argentina has nearly 400,000 homes using its long distance service in a subscription mode, as well as 220,000 SMEs and 1,800 large companies signed up for voice and data transmission services.
