Ancel Launches IM Service

Uruguayan telco Ancel, the mobile unit of state-run operator Antel, has launched an instant messaging service called Ancel Messenger to compete with similar services offered by other operators, local newspaper La República reported.

The service will allow subscribers to chat with other users of Ancel phones.

The company has recently become the first Latin American telco to use the Ogo range of devices, made by US telecoms manufacturer IXI Mobile, that are designed to bring mobile data to the mass market.
