Published on:

Argentine capital Buenos Aires had 251 Wi-Fi hotspots at the end of February 2006, more than four times the 62 hotspots registered at end-2004, local newspaper Infobae reported, citing a study conducted by consultancy Marco Consultora.

"We are seeing exponential growth in public Wi-Fi access points in Buenos Aires... even though the number of connections is still relatively low [compared to other capital cities]," Marco Consultora regional marketing manager Luis Guaragno was quoted as saying.

In the city, around 59.4% of Hotspots are concentrated in restaurants and bars, while 19.5% are located in hotels.

According to the study, 48% of hotspots are in the bustling Recoleta, Palermo, Belgrano and Núñez districts, while 32.9% are in the downtown and Puerto Madero districts.
