Mobile Phone Imports Rise 25% in Jan-May
Argentina's mobile phone imports rose 25% in the first five months of 2006 to 4.34 million units compared to the same period in 2005, according to a study conducted by local consultancy Datarisk.
The total value of imports increased 48% to US$394mn compared to US$266mn in the same period of comparison.
According to Datarisk, these figures show an increase in the import of more expensive mobile devices.
"Not only are the import figures growing in number but also in total value as more technologically advanced devices are entering the local market," according to the study.
In January-May 2006, some 4.23 million mobile telephones were imported compared to 3.83 million in the same period 2005. The peak of this growth was May 2006, with an increase of 32% year on year.
