No 3G for Vietnam - Yet
Vietnam's Ministry of Posts and Telematics (MPT) has denied 3G licences for the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Viettel, citing lack of a legal foundation. According to the ministry's Telecommunications Department, the agency in charge of licensing telecom services, MPT rejected the applications because it is still considering regulations.
Since Vietnam still lacks the legal foundation 3G, no firm may yet provide it.
Last April, China's ZTE said that it had signed a contract to install a 3G 450MHz EV-DO network in Ho Chi Minh City, on behalf of Vietnam Power Telecom (VP Telecom)."
