Claro to Offer BlackBerry Via Retail Stores on July 15

Brazilian mobile phone operator Claro plans to start selling BlackBerry handsets to individual consumers via retail outlets on July 15, the company said.

Claro is launching Blackberry for the corporate sector this week, and has already launched the product for this segment in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The América Móvil unit intends to cover the complete country, targeting the whole range of companies from corporate through to SMEs, a Claro spokesperson told BNamericas.

Claro will offer BlackBerry 7290, 7100g and 8700g models with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF readers as well as access to internet.

Rival operator TIM began offering the BlackBerry 8700g to individual customers in May.
