Mobile Phone Throwing Championship

A UK version of the Finish Mobile Phone Throwing Championship has been set for this August in London. The competition is open to anyone over the age of 18, and is organised by sport and adventure club 8th Day UK, supported by (and in support of) ActionAid Recycling.

Mobile Phone Throwing was first started in Finland at the turn of the millennium, only making it to the UK last year, when the UK Women's Champion, Jan Singleton, threw a world record distance of 38.74m, though this only stood for a few weeks before being broken at the World Championships with a throw of 41.42m. The current UK Men's Champion, Tom Day, threw a distance of 69.31m, which whilst impressive didn't trouble the world record of 94.97 metres. This year however the event will be bigger and better, and with more throwers we hope there'll be more records broken!

Competitors are encouraged to bring any old mobiles they may have, which will be given to ActionAid Recycling in order to recycle them for poorer countries. The phones competitors actually throw will be provided on the night.
