Nokia Expects to Sell 3.5 Million Devices in 2006
Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia expects to sell 3.5 million new mobile handsets in Peru this year, Lima newspaper Gestión quoted the company's Latin American account director, Teobaldo Palacios, as saying.
In Peru, Nokia sells its devices through local operators Movistar Perú, owned by Spain's Telefónica Móviles and Claro, the local unit of Mexico's América Móvil.
"Nokia has 5.5 million mobile users in Peru and by year-end we expect this number to grow to 9 million users," he said in the report.
The company had previously predicted the number of Peruvians owning cell phones would climb to 25% of the population in 2006 from 20% in 2005. In capital Lima, penetration reaches 50%, according to Palacios.
