Digicel to Sell Konka GSM Mobile Handsets

Caribbean mobile operator Digicel and Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Konka have entered into a partnership whereby Digicel will sell Konka's GSM mobile handsets, the operator said in a statement.

Digicel is Konka's first overseas partner and the relationship marks the Chinese company's entrance into the Caribbean market, the statement said.

Konka will offer exclusive to Digicel the D163 slim phone with MP3/MP4 playback and 1.3 mega pixel camera with flash and 4X digital zoom.

KONKA is a global consumer electronics manufacturer and among China's 100 largest enterprises and a leading domestic brand.

Digicel is present in two Caribbean countries. The Caribbean market has a total population of 40 million and conservative estimates expect the market for mobile communications to reach 17.1 million, a 47% increase from the current 11.6 million subscriber base, according to EMC World Cellular Database.
