3G Network for Syria

Areeba Syria, Investcom's Syrian mobile telecommunications operations, announced yesterday that it will be launching 3G services including video calls and high-speed internet. No further details were provided however, such as a launch date, or if they have a 3G license from the Syrian telecoms regulator.

Azmi Mikati, CEO of Investcom said: "Investcom is committed to investing in the future of 3G technology and, through our Areeba Syria operations, we are confident that the country can benefit from this technology".

Investcom operates GSM networks, mostly under the Areeba brand, in Syria, Ghana, Yemen, Benin, Liberia, Cyprus, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry and Sudan."
