Moviles Aims To Have 60% Of Local Customers On 3G By '09
MADRID -(Dow Jones)- Telefonica Moviles, Tuesday said it expects that 60% of all Spanish subscribers will own a third-generation mobile handset by 2009.
Speaking at the company's annual general meeting, the last before Moviles is delisted by parent Telefonica, Chairman Antonio Viana-Baptista said the company's 3G network should have 13,000 base stations by 2009, compared with the current 6,000.
Moviles had 360,000 subscribers of 3G services in Spain as of March 31, out of a total of 20.3 million subscribers in the country.
Moviles is the top Spanish mobile operator by subscribers, and the second largest in Latin America, behind America Movil.
