Remote GSM Picocell Solution with Satellite Backhaul
ip.access says that its nanoGSM picocell solution has successfully completed testing for interoperability with VSAT satellite equipment from iDirect, the satellite-based broadband access solutions developer. ip.access has joined iDirect's IP Alliance, and the two companies now offer a proven solution for enhancing GSM coverage and capacity in remote locations worldwide.
Backhauling ip.access' nanoBTS picocells over iDirect satellite equipment will enable operators to deliver cost-effective basestation coverage in remote locations where it was previously considered uneconomic. Using satellite backhaul, ip.access' picocells can also be deployed in vehicles to make optimal coverage and capacity available in transit.
John Kealey President and CEO iDirect, commented, "Together with ip.access, we can deliver a complete cost-effective solution for enhancing GSM coverage and capacity in remote locations. We are delighted to welcome ip.access to the IP Alliance and look forward to working with them."
Stephen Mallinson CEO, ip.access, added, "In addition to creating new market opportunities, the availability of nanoGSM with VSAT backhaul further expands the range of installation options that can be supported. The benefits of nanoGSM can be enjoyed worldwide, in any location."
