Ukraine's Regulator Refuses to Give CDMA-450 License to Ukrtelecom
KIEV, June 5 (Prime-Tass) -- Ukraine's National Commission for Communications Regulation (NKRS) has refused to provide state-owned fixed-line monopoly Ukrtelecom with a license for operation in CDMA-450 standard, a spokesperson with the regulator told Prime-Tass Monday.
Ukrtelecom applied in mid-2005 for the CDMA-450 mobile service license throughout Ukraine.
The spokesperson attributed the refusal to a lack of radio technology in Ukraine for the radio spectrum applied for by Ukrtelecom. In addition, the CDMA-450 equipment might not operate properly together with already operating radio electronic equipment in the frequencies Ukrtelecom applied for, the spokesperson said.
In late 2005, Ukrtelecom received a license to operate a third generation (3G) mobile network but has not yet started the network construction.
