Motorola Plans US$9mn Investment in R&D Sites
US equipment manufacturer Motorola plans to invest US$9mn in its research and development (R&D) operations in the northeast of Brazil, Motorola said in a statement.
The investment aims to locate some 350 engineers in a new site at Motorola's test center in the coastal city of Recife, a Motorola spokesperson told BNamericas.
"The center will create platforms to develop software for mobile phones," she added. The software will be available for Motorola's units worldwide.
"We hope to continue growing," the spokesperson said, without providing details. Motorola has already invested US$20mn in its Brazilian test center since 2001.
The center is one of 100 projects in Recife's digital port for technology, which received around US$225mn between 1997 and 2005.
