Review of Swiss GSM Licenses
On behalf of Switzerland's Federal Communications Commission (ComCom), the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) has launched a public consultation on the renewal of the GSM licences of Swisscom Mobile, Orange Communications and TDC Switzerland.
The GSM mobile telephony licences, awarded for a period of 10 years to Swisscom Mobile, Orange Communications and TDC Switzerland will expire on 31 May 2008. Before they are renewed, the regulator said that it appears wise to analyse the preferences, wishes and comments of interested parties. On behalf of the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom), the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) is therefore carrying out a public consultation which will last until 23 June 2006.
As early as the end of 2005, ComCom examined the situation following the expiry of these three GSM mobile telephony licences. In spring 2006, it decided to consider renewing the three licences.
However, ComCom will not pronounce definitively on the renewal of the licences and their content until after the current consultation of interested parties."
