US Military Orders Cingular Kit
The United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) has ordered wireless voice and data communications services from Cingular Wireless through the federal FISC contracting vehicle. Norfolk, VA-based USJFCOM already has ordered nearly 700 mobile phones, BlackBerry wireless handhelds and LaptopConnect cards enabled for Cingular's UMTS/HSDPA-based BroadbandConnect service.
USJFCOM is the only one of nine combatant commands in the U.S. Department of Defense focused on the transformation of U.S. military capabilities. USJFCOM personnel include members from each branch of the U.S. military, civil servants, contract employees and consultants.
"Cingular is pleased to have been entrusted by USJFCOM with providing to the men and women of this elite command the wireless communications they need to stay in touch with the people and information that is important to their jobs," said Chris Hill, vice president, government solutions, for Cingular Wireless. "Cingular brings USJFCOM personnel several advantages, such as access to free mobile-to-mobile calling, and a global standard, 3G wireless technology that allows for simultaneous voice and data sessions."
