Mobile operator Movistar Argentina plans to increase GSM coverage and network capacity by deploying 1,000 new radio base stations nationwide, the company said in a statement.
The company plans to deploy 200 antennas in the metropolitan area, 531 in northern Argentina and 206 in the south.
In addition to expanding the service in locations where Movistar already has coverage, the operator is expanding the number of cities with GSM coverage.
Movistar, a unit of Spain's Telefónica Móviles (NYSE: TEM), also plans to increase the capabilities of its value added services platforms, including improvements in services such as VPN, SMS, voicemail, mobile data, WAP and prepaid services.
The company also plans investment in fiber optic equipment to expand its transmission network.
