Ericsson to Deliver IP Core Network to MTN Uganda

MTN Uganda has chosen Ericsson to supply and roll out its IP core network in cooperation with Cisco Systems. For MTN Uganda, this is an initial step towards migrating today's network to a multi-service network capable of carrying large and growing volumes of voice and data traffic. In the initial phase, Ericsson will provide a multi-service core network solution based on the Cisco 12000 Series routers, and Ericsson's end-to-end solution experience and related support services backed by Cisco Technical Support Services.

Phase two of the project includes the addition of Ericsson Telephony Softswitch in order to significantly reduce operational costs for the fixed telephony network.

The solution gives MTN Uganda a secure migration path along which they can evolve their circuit-switched network to a multi-service network. It will be capable of carrying large and growing volumes of voice and data traffic, and enables integrated traditional fixed telephony with IP-based broadband traffic on a single network.

Adem Sumertas, Key Account Manager, Ericsson says: "Ericsson is delighted to continue the cooperation with MTN in their goal to provide new and innovative communication services to their customers. Ericsson's local presence, product and services portfolio and partners ensure the highest level of dedication."
