Azerbaijan's newest GSM network operator, Azerphone says that it expects to start offering commercial services in September this year. The Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said that Azerphone is current building its infrastructure. Azerphone plans to invest US$300 million in the country over two years. It was set up as a joint venture, with Siemens holding a 30% stake, while British companies Extel and Celex Communications - 60%, and local provider Aztelekom 10%.
"Because the number of cellular phone users is gradually increasing, the networks of Azercell and Bakcell can not meet the demand of the population. As a result, certain technical problems emerge. We think that 3rd operator's occurrence in the cellular communication market in August will eliminate those problems"
Mr.Abbasov clarified once again the information on making calls from Azerbaijan to Armenia: "With the help of the law "On control over phone calls and other communication forms, and operation-search activity", certain security measures are implemented in this field. This issue is being controlled"
